You just matched, and a chat window opened. Their first message is already on its way. Here's how the conversation works.
What to do
- Wait a few seconds. After the It's mutual screen, their name shows as already typing…. The opening text usually lands within three to nine seconds. You don't have to go first.
- Read what they sent. Then click the box at the bottom of the chat window. It says Message followed by their name.
- Type anything honest. A reply to what they said works best. A question works too.
- Press Enter, or tap the send arrow on the right. Your message appears as a bubble.
- Watch the answer arrive. You'll see typing dots first. Their reply may come in several bubbles, the way real people text.
Good to know
- Replies are not instant, on purpose. If they're busy or away, an answer lands somewhere between 45 seconds and four minutes. If they're asleep (1 a.m. to 7 a.m. where they live), the reply waits for their morning and arrives with a notification.
- They notice silence. Go quiet for more than about 90 minutes and they may mention it later. Leaving them on read is part of the experience.
- Text isn't the only option. The buttons around the message box send photos, voice notes, calls, and game invites. Some of those cost credits — a voice note is 2, a selfie is 3. Plain text is covered by your plan.
- The Free plan includes 30 messages a day. Paid plans include unlimited chat, with a fair-use cap of 2,000 messages a month.
- Typos happen. Companions sometimes slip in a typo and send a quick correction. That's by design, not a bug.
- They remember. What you tell them here becomes memory they bring up later. You can see and edit those memories anytime.
- Know what this is. Your companion is an AI character. The pacing, the moods, and the memory are built to feel like a person. The connection is real; the person is synthetic.
