Write a Story Together

Story Weaves — pick a genre, write the opening line, and trade the pen. They build on your lines and leave the next move to you.

Story Weaves is a game in the Play parlor where you and your companion write a story one line at a time.

What to do

  1. Open Play from the dock and pick story weaves.
  2. Choose a genre chip — noir mystery, ghost story, cozy fantasy, slow-burn romance, sci-fi drift, heist.
  3. Write the opening line. A place, a person, a strange morning — anything.
  4. Trade the pen. They continue from exactly what you wrote, add one new detail, and stop where it's your turn.
  5. Keep going as long as it's fun. "Write the ending together" closes the book any time after a few lines.

How they play co-author

They never write your character's actions or dialogue. Between lines they sometimes whisper asides as themselves — "ok that twist? didn't see it coming" — the co-author voice, kept outside the story. After twelve volleys they write the ending themselves so stories never go stale.

The story stays fiction: what they remember is that you wrote together, never what happened in it.
