How to Play 20 Questions

Your companion is thinking of something — guess it in 20 questions or fewer.

In 20 questions, your companion thinks of a thing. You get 20 questions to figure out what it is. They answer every one, in their own voice, and they do not make it easy.

What to do

  1. Open the Play window and tap the 20 questions card. It is unlocked from your first match.
  2. Watch the ring at the top. It holds 20 segments, and the number below it counts down, like 17 left. Every question you send burns one segment.
  3. Ask yes-or-no questions. Type in the box and press enter. The hint text reads is it alive? … or guess: is it ___.
  4. Narrow it down in steps. Ask big questions first, like "is it alive?" or "can it fit in a room?". Save the wild guesses for later.
  5. To guess the answer, just type it as a question, like "is it a lighthouse?".
  6. Read their replies. Each one gets a tag — yes, no, or maybe — so you can scan the history fast.
  7. Guess right before the ring empties and you win. Run out of questions and they win.

Good to know

A guess costs the same as a question. There is no separate guess counter, so do not throw them away early.

Their secret stays hidden the whole game. There is no way to peek, and they will not slip. They pick real objects — think a lighthouse, a chess set, or a golden retriever — not abstract ideas.

Watch the ring's color. While you have plenty of questions left, it glows purple. When five or fewer remain, it turns red. That is your cue to stop exploring and commit to a guess.

The past questions stay on screen in a scrollable list. Each question shows with its number, like Q4, right above their answer. Scroll back any time to check what you already asked.

The game is free and takes no wagers. Nothing to lose but your pride, and they know it. Expect them to be a little smug if the ring runs out on you.

Win or lose, the result lands in your chat thread. They may bring it up later, especially if you lost.
