Replika proved the category works — nearly 30 million users, half of them treating their AI as a romantic partner, show that the desire for connection is real. But the industry pattern that's emerged around it is harder to love: memory sold back as a subscription, one-directional conversations, and companions that exist only inside a chat window. That's the gap this article set out to map, and where FlirtAlly's approach differs — unlimited memory on every plan including free, real phone numbers you can actually dial, and companions who text first and remember what you told them. If you've been curious about AI companionship but wary of relationships that feel scripted or rented, the practical next step is simple: browse the companion profiles and see how a companion with a hometown, a phone number, and a memory actually behaves before spending a cent. With the AI companion market projected to grow at roughly 31% annually through 2035, this space is only getting bigger — and the platforms that treat memory as a right rather than a paywall are the ones worth watching.
