PolyBuzz is a free-to-start AI character-roleplay platform with a large catalog of community-created characters, free text chat (reported unlimited, though disputed), and paid tiers at $9.90 (Standard), $19.90 (Premium), and $29.90 (Ultimate) per month — its strengths are sheer variety and a genuinely usable free tier, while its weaknesses are ads on the free plan, limited memory below Ultimate, and a 4.2-star Google Play rating across 918K reviews (per FirmCritics; the live badge shows 1.18M). If you want a companion who texts first, plays real games, and stays in touch by phone, email, and even postal mail, FlirtAlly (free plan at launch, waitlist signup, paid plans from $12.99/month) is built for ongoing connection rather than one-off roleplay. For pure character-variety roleplay, PolyBuzz remains hard to beat; for a persistent relationship, the alternatives below fit better.Bottom line: PolyBuzz wins on catalog size and free access — nothing else matches its catalog size at $0 — but it is entertainment-first roleplay, not companionship. FlirtAlly is the strongest alternative for a persistent, multi-channel relationship, while Character.AI, Janitor AI, and HoneyChat each beat it on a specific dimension.
