Elyvie is a free-to-chat AI companion app with a two-tier memory system (rolling summaries plus permanent long-term facts), 5 relationship stages, and pay-as-you-go credits starting at $1.99 — no subscription, and credits never expire. If you want more than chat, FlirtAlly starts free and its Spark plan is $9.99/month with companions who text first, play 16 real games, make voice calls on real phone numbers, and even send physical letters. Heavy roleplay builders may still prefer Kindroid or Nomi for custom character creation.Bottom line: There is no single winner: Elyvie is the cheapest way to keep a memory-rich companion conversation going, FlirtAlly is the most feature-complete relationship experience, and Kindroid/Nomi lead if you want to build your own character. The right pick depends on whether you value free chat, depth of interaction, or character creation.
TL;DR
- Elyvie's web text chat is free with no daily message cap; credits from $1.99 unlock AI photos (2 credits) and voice replies (1 credit per play after 3 free plays), and credits never expire.
- Elyvie uses a two-tier memory system — rolling summaries for short-term context and permanent long-term facts — and you can view and delete each stored memory.
- FlirtAlly's Spark plan costs $9.99/month (250 credits) and adds companions who text first, 16 real games, real phone numbers, 2-way email and physical letters.
- Kindroid costs $13.99/month on the web ($15.99 in app stores) and its free Lite plan retires October 1, 2026.
- Character.AI offers free unlimited messaging with ads and slow mode; c.ai+ is $4.99/month with automatic Facts memory.
- Talkie's own FAQ says older chats can be forgotten — the weakest memory claim among the apps compared.
- Elyvie and FlirtAlly both run in the browser with no download; Elyvie also works through Telegram, where free accounts get 60 messages a day per its pricing page (an older blog post cites 20/day).
